Tales from The Pitt
Game Inspiration:
Supernatural sightings, myths, and legends. Based on H.P Lovecraft lore and
mythology of cosmic horror.
Level Duration: Still in progress, but the level layout is a large-scale scene that will take over 5-15minutes each to traverse through the level.

Learning Objective:
Tales from the Pitt is a game prototype that I have created in my spare time. Still a work in progress, this game does encompass some of that psychological thriller/horror storyline that I really enjoy creating. One thing that I really wanted to get across in this prototype so far was the firearm mechanics so that the player can fire, arm, and animate the weapons towards objects and enemies. One thing that I know I want to bring/ add to the level is AI. I need to add this in so the enemy can both look and attack the player. Without this, it is not possible.

Narrative:
You play as an explorer who investigates urban mysteries. You follow a lead on a supernatural
sighting and whilst on your travels you stumble upon The Pitt. The Pitt, despite its quarry
appearance, has rumored tales from its depths that are met with strange flashbacks, supernatural sightings, and eerie settings. You become drawn into the quarry and want to find out more about what is going on all the while, something sinister is going on beneath the surface…

Research:
My research for this prototype started from my personal interest in supernatural sightings, myths, and legends. Reflecting on this, I became obsessed with the Stranger Things franchise, so I wanted to take the concept of the upside down to this quarry design. I almost wanted to create this fear- provoking idea that there are these creatures that live at the bottom of this quarry and come from an unknown source. got the idea of using a quarry from googling images of real-life quarries and construction sites. I wanted to get an idea of what they look like in the real world so I could replicate and match this in my level designs/ layouts for the game.
Design:
I created this prototype in Unity HDRP which provides advanced 3D real time rendering technologies that is optimized for PC. With HDRP it also provides immersive lighting, volumetric light, and fog to create and bring atmosphere and tension to the level.
When I was designing the level for the Pitt, it took me a few months to design because I wanted to really understand where to place objects. I used the images from the research I did on quarries to place the objects and keep a real-life element to it. Most of the level was designed by myself from my own creativity and how I wanted to design it in that moment.
